At what high rating RPM's does the stock ignition control module start to "bust up"?
I have a rebuilt 1970 5.6L 340.

Depends? I've seen them not break up, and I've seen them break up at 4,000 rpm. It depends on a lot of variables--the rest of the ignition package, the wiring to the box, the grounding of the box, and the over all tune.
If the box isn't getting sufficieint voltage, it'll break up. If the distributor is having a problem, that could mis-lead you to believe the box is bad.
Under normal circumstances, the stock box should be adequate to at least 6,000 rpm.

Some people are like Slinkys; they're not very useful, but fun to watch when pushed down the stairs.

factory boxes should be fine up to 6,000 rpm. Orange boxes are good up to around 7,500 rpm. Gold boxes are good up to 10,000 rpm.
I'd check loose connections, and also the ground for the control box. It must be grounded to the chassis to work properly. Try sanding the metal under the bolts for a good ground.
Also, if the voltage regulator is not working properly, or the alternator is not putting out proper voltage, it will cause the ignition to break up at a lower rpm.
