What carb do u run? What size exhaust? You don't have to change cam, but that would help big time in conjunction with the rest. Recurving the distributor advance would help a lil, If you read back a few pages there's an explanation for what heads to use ect.

Well id like to make a pretty beastly engine at about 400 horses. It used to be a daily driver but id like to make it more of a racer. So which one do you recommend? It has an Edelbrock performer and 2.5 inch exhaust.

If u really hog out [knowing what your doing] 318 heads like mentioned can get u there but after that not really any more can be had. Honestly for that kind of power out of a 318 I recommend flow test after porting, you wanna see about 185-190cfm on the int. 140 or so on exhaust [figuring for any corks in the combo] for a cam 1st go with a solid it's more hp for your dollar and a comparable grind to a hyd will idle better and have a broader torque curve than the hyd , faster ramp speed consistent valve action compared to hyd ect. Heres the cams I recommend, MP .528lift 284*DUR 242*@.050 112CL INSTALLED 4* ADVANCED=108 COMP XS274S .502 .511lift 274*-280*DUR 236*-242*@.050 110CL INSTALL 2*ADV
IF u want hyd then COMP XE275HL .525LIFT 275*-287* 231*-237*@.050 110* INSTALL 2*ADVANCE
These are all street pieces and make good street/strip cams should be good for what your doing. OTHERWISE MP.557 or better yet drop a grand on mech roller setup .....
